Underage Minors in Adamawa state have been reportedly said to have agitate for the protection of minor girls from going to early marriage, via the enactment of child rights protection bill, which will hinder parents from giving out their minor girls for marriage at an early age, until they are completely through with their secondary school, as girls calls for prohibition of early marriage in the state

Amira Abdullahi, a 13 year old JSS 3 student at the Government Day Junior Secondary School, Luggere, in Yola North LGA, who is the representative of the underage girl, made the agitation at the state’s assembly, to mark the International Day of the Girl Child.

The 13 year old, female, had urged the assembly, to ensure speedy passage of the ‘Child Protection Bill’, since the bill has passed through the first reading, she also added stating; by enacting the bill, it will hinder parents in the state from marrying their underage daughters out for early marriage.

Amira, also pleaded with the speaker, to ensure the safety of the female child against sexual assault and other forms of abuse.

Responding, the Speaker of the assembly, Rt. Hon. Aminu Iya-Abbas, congratulated the girls for marking the 2021 International Day of the Girl Child, and pledged the readiness of the assembly to pass the pending bills which have bearing on the girl child’s overall wellbeing.
